2018 Social Media Trends Mid-Year Review

If you think Social Media hasn’t changed that much this year, think again. Instagram is still the most popular social media platform and to keep up, they have added to their platform and have also changed its structure. With Instagram stories and the addition of IGTV and IG Live, content and content structure has also changed to more quick and “real”. Here are the 5 main Social Media Trends of 2018.

1. Instagram Stories

Instagram Stories have become increasing popular and are the biggest social media trends of 2018. Instagram announced in June that over 400 million people use Instagram Stories which is way higher than the users that Snapchat reported (Snapchat should have never changed it’s structure). Companies now have an intimate way of reaching their users and creating content targeted to their specific user over the largest social media audeince.

There are a couple of things that you must do to receive the benefits from a business account, but Instagram is still the best platforms that reach the broadest demographics.

3. Great Photos

In 2018, everyone has access to great cameras and photo editing software. The key to have Great Photos that are the center of your content and that also tell a story.

Stock photos will not just do it anymore. There has to be a meaning and a story line behind your content.

4. GIFS

It’s not a video and not a picture…It’s a GIF…A quick under 4 second animation without sound. Why are these a hit? There isn’t a commitment. You don’t have to click on the link to watch the video or to start it up. You don’t have to stop what you are doing to watch and listen.

5. Emotion

Top companies on Social Media are no longer maintaining the connotation of “professional”.  For example, look at the image Wendy’s has drawn for us with their personality on Social Media. They are putting a voice and emotion behind their product to let their viewers know that they are actually a real person.

What is Branding?

What is Branding?

We are going to define branding because it is often misunderstood, but yet a very important concept for every business to understand.

Branding is very important to each and every company. It tells consumers about the company’s products and also about the company itself.

According to the American Marketing Association:

“A brand is a name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller’s good or service as distinct from those of other sellers.”

To break it down, Branding is describing a products with words and illustrations.

If  you view a symbol and automatically know what the product is, the company utilized successful branding tactics in the branding campaign.

Think about these topics and think of the company you think of when they are mentioned:

  •  Home Improvement
  • Tissues
  • Soda
  • Fast Food

How many more clients would you reach if you could be the number one brand that your target market thinks of?

A great brand also gives your consumers something to believe in. People may purchase a more expensive item when there are less expensive items available because of their confidence in the brand. Branding should be apart of a company’s marketing plan.

What is Advertising?

advertising

What is Advertising? Advertising is an often misused word in business. Many people confuse Marketing and Advertising, but it important to know the difference between the two. Here is the definition of Advertising in simple and clear terms.

What is Advertising?

Advertising is the method used to influence customers or clients to purchase or use products or services. It is the way the product and service is being promoted. The goal of advertising campaign is to aquest new customers or re-instating the product/services and its value with existing customers or clients.

Advertising campaigns can be executed a number of ways. In marketing it is called Media Purchasing and thorough research is necessary to not waste the Advertising Budget. Some of the popular advertising channels are:

Television

Radio

Digital

Tradeshows

Magazine

For example, if you were advertising a restaurant targeted to 22-34 year old young professionals, your best advertising channel would not be television or radio, since those are not the platforms that they are on.

There are four parts behind adverting:

  1. Research (Finding your target market.)
  2. Planning (Budget, Media Planning, Ad Style)
  3. Execution (Using your Research and Planning to Execute your Adverting Campaign)
  4. Analyzing

There is also a creative team that puts together the artwork and message.

The advertising process differs depending upon the company and its goals.

A startup company would need to began by branding itself in its industry.

A company that has been established for a while, may need to re-brand and refresh it’s image. Look at how El Pollo is doing this.
